Hi there! I’m Alex Callico. Currently, I’m living in Phoenix, AZ, though my heart still belongs to the small-town vibes of Pinetop, AZ, where I grew up. Life has been an exciting whirlwind lately—I recently married the love of my life this past March! Together, we love traveling the world, playing board games, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
Lately, I’ve been feeling nostalgic for those small-town feels and dreaming of a life far away from the hustle and bustle of city living. I envision a future with wide open spaces, a big house on a plot of land, and a family farm bustling with chickens, cows, goats, and a sprawling garden. I picture barefoot kids running around, soaking in the fresh air and the freedom that comes with country living.
But, for now, that dream remains just that—a dream. Reality has us in a cozy 2-bedroom apartment in the city. And while a big farm isn’t in the cards for us at the moment, I’ve realized that doesn’t mean I have to give up on my homesteading aspirations entirely.
Initially, I felt discouraged. The thoughts of not having a house, land, or being outside the city made my dream seem impossible. But then I had an epiphany—there’s still so much I can do, right here in our apartment, to embrace a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.
Sure, I might not be able to raise chickens or cows, but I can grow my own food in our apartment and bake homemade bread. I can also support local farmers by buying organic and locally farmed produce in our area. It’s about making the most of what I have and finding joy in the small steps toward a more sustainable life.
So, I invite you to join me on this journey! I’m learning to live healthier and more sustainably, all while holding on to the things I love. Together, let’s explore how we can make our urban lives a little greener, even if it’s just one small apartment garden at a time.
Welcome to my world of urban homesteading—where dreams meet reality, and we find ways to make it all work, no matter where we are.
